INNOVATIVE METHODS

Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities

The Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities comprises dedicated, qualified, and experienced faculty members in the disciplines of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences. All faculty members fulfill the norms prescribed by AICTE and J NTUH. The department adopts student-centric and innovative pedagogical practices to enhance communication skills, analytical abilities, scientific temperament, and professional competencies among engineering students.

The following teaching methodologies are adopted for effective delivery of courses:

i) Lecture Method and Interactive Learning

  • Audiovisual aids, chalk, and board are used by the faculty for teaching.
  • Students are encouraged to clarify their doubts, during the lecture hour itself.
  • Tutorial Sessions for Problem-Oriented subjects are done by the subject teachers.
  • During the lecture hour, first 5 minutes are used for revising topics taught in the previous class by the students and the last 5 minutes is used to give a summary of the current class. Hence the students will get continuity of the previous day topics.
  • ii) Application Based Learning:

  • Students are encouraged to apply theoretical concepts through practical assignments, presentations, and project-based activities.
  • The Department organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and expert talks on emerging trends in science, technology, and communication skills.
  • Students participate in language activities such as extempore speaking, JAM sessions, storytelling, and poster presentations.
  • Industrial visits and field visits are arranged, wherever applicable, to expose students to realworld applications of scientific concepts.
  • Students are motivated to participate in interdisciplinary projects and innovation activities.
  • iii) Practical Learning:

  • Language Laboratory sessions are conducted to improve students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Communication skills are enhanced through activities using digital language learning platforms and AI-based language learning applications.
  • Experiments beyond the prescribed syllabus are conducted in Physics and Chemistry laboratories to promote experiential learning.
  • Virtual laboratory exercises and simulations are incorporated to strengthen conceptual understanding.
  • Laboratories are made accessible to students beyond regular hours for additional practice and experimentation.
  • iv) Hi-tech classroom:

  • All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors and digital boards for effective teachinglearning.
  • The department utilizes smart classrooms and multimedia facilities to create an interactive learning environment.
  • Wi-Fi-enabled classrooms facilitate access to online learning resources and digital content.
  • v) Other Innovative Teaching methods adopted by the faculty

    Innovative teaching practices are adopted to improve students' academic performance, communication skills, and employability.

    • Faculty members upload lesson plans, study materials, assignments, and question banks on the institutional Learning Management System (LMS) and Google Classroom.
    • E-books, e-journals, and digital resources are made available through the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and DELNET.
    • ICT-enabled teaching methods such as smart classrooms, video lectures, and multimedia presentations are extensively used.
    • Blended learning approaches are adopted by integrating classroom teaching with online learning platforms.
    • Faculty members use Google Classroom, Moodle, and other digital platforms for content sharing and continuous assessment.
    • Online certification courses through NPTEL, SWAYAM, Coursera, and other MOOC platforms are encouraged among students and faculty.
    • Recorded lectures and e-learning resources are made available for students' future reference.
    • Language learning applications and AI-enabled tools are incorporated to improve English language proficiency and communication competence.
    • Webinars, expert talks, and interdisciplinary lectures are integrated with classroom teaching to enhance knowledge and skills.
    • Faculty members regularly participate in AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Faculty Development Programmes, workshops, short-term courses, and orientation programmes to keep themselves updated with emerging trends in education and technology.
    • Remedial classes, bridge courses, and mentoring sessions are conducted to support slow learners and academically weak students.
