Water Conservation


VMTW is advantageously located in a developing suburban-semi-urban area of Hyderabad. Its location combines the benefits of a relatively peaceful and green campus atmosphere with access to the educational and technological opportunities of the Hyderabad metropolitan region. The institution highlights its campus as an eco-friendly learning environment with student-support facilities. The institute depends on ground water for all its water needs. Hence, efficient usage of available water and water conservation measures are adopted. The daily requirement of water in the campus is around 60,000 liters.

The following measures are taken for the conservation of water:

Rain Water Harvesting:

Institute has taken maximum steps to harvest rain water inside the campus.

  • Number of rain water harvesting pits are 27 which are constructed in the campus at various places.
  • Bore well recharge is done.
  • It helps us to reduce the floods on roads and mitigate water stagnation inside campus. It also aided to improve the ground water level to a considerable extent.

Bore Well Recharge:

Bore well water is used to provide the sufficient amount of water to meet the needs of all stake holders and employees. It is recharged by rain water.

Availability of Storage Tanks:

Two underground tanks with the capacity of 60,000 liters each is constructed as a central system and also overhead tanks on top of the building. A contour bund is created as the boundary for all rain water harvesting pits for the passage and percolation of rain water.

Waste Water Recycling:

In this campus 60,000 liters of water demand is for college smooth functioning. Total water demand is being met by extracting from ground through bore well and is naturally replenished (being situated lake side), also recharged with bunds and harvesting pits. Total waste water produced from the campus is treated with a centrally constructed decentralized sewage treatment plant (STP). This decentralized waste water treatment plant is installed with a capacity of 2000 liters per hour. The waste water after treatment is proposed to be utilized effectively for gardening purpose. These will drastically reduce the usage of fresh water. Approximate estimation is given below for information.

Water Distribution System:

The bore well water is pumped into ground storage tank which has capacity 50,000 liters and then water is pumped to the four overhead tanks of 50,000 liters capacity each. Further the water is distributed to washrooms, construction, canteen, workshops and floor cleaning through a well laid pipe network. The water from overhead tank is distributed to all taps across the campus.

VMTW has its own mineral water (RO) plant with the capacity of 1000 liters per hour each. Water coolers are installed in all blocks to provide clean drinking water to all the staff and students in the institute.

Waste water usage is reduced using low pressure flushes and water is supplied through a separate set of distribution pipes. The entire distribution system is well supervised by Civil works to ensure that there are no leakages and wastage of precious water through joints, valves, etc. All the stakeholders of the institute are well educated to use water economically and efficiently. Our own institution plumbers maintain the plumbing system. Whenever problems are identified, immediate actions are taken to restrict wastage of water.
